Paideia Academy Governance

There is a significant difference in how charter schools and traditional public schools are governed. Charter schools elect their own school boards to oversee all aspects of the school's mission, goals, and operations. The autonomy charter schools enjoy creates an environment where creativity and innovation in teaching and learning flourish.

The Board is charged by law with the duty of carrying out the responsibilities entrusted to them for the care, oversight of management and control of the Academy. The Board shall carry out the mission of the Academy with diligence, prudence, and dedication to the ideals of providing the finest public education aligned with the vision and mission of the School. The Board exercises those administrative functions directly related to the operation of the Board and delegates all other administrative functions to the Director.

The Board is made up of parents, teachers and community members.

Tona T. Dove

Tona is one of the founders of Paideia Academy. Tona was the Startup Coordinator and is the current Board Chair. She an attorney who practiced for 12 years in the areas of real estate, land use, municipal law and civil litigation. She resigned from a partnership in the law firm of LeVander, Gillen and Miller, P.A. to start Paideia Academy. She has two children who attend Paideia.

Treasurer
Erik P. Dove

Erik is one of the founders of Paideia Academy. Erik holds a law degree and an MBA.
He worked for over 10 years in commercial banking and is currently Chief Operating Officer
for Denny Hecker Automotive, Inc. Erik has two children who attend Paideia Academy.

Secretary
Amy Monson

Amy is one of the founders of Paideia Academy. Amy is a nurse by trade and acted as the Volunteer Coordinator/Family Liaison in the startup year. She continues to act as Family Liaison and Secretary of the Board. Amy has a daughter who attends Paideia Academy.

Martin Monson

Martin is one of the founders of Paideia Academy. Martin works in the technology field and
is coordinating all aspects of technology for Paideia. Martin has a daughter who attends Paideia.

Bret Walsh

Bret is a founding Board member and a member of the community. He recently resigned his position as Committee Administrator for the House K-12 Education Finance Committee in order to attend law school full-time. Bret understands the need for choice in education and is committed to community involvement. Bret and his wife live in Eagan and recently gave birth to their first child.

Mary D. Hall

Mary is a founding Board member. She has a B.A. in Advertising and an M.B.C. in Marketing Communications, as well as extensive experience in communications planning and PR.
Mary has played an integral role in marketing and recruitment for Paideia. Mary has a daughter attending Paideia Academy.

Tracy Payne

Tracy is a founding Board member. She is a Project Manager at Blue Cross Blue Shield
and has extensive experience in project management. Tracy has been instrumental in organizing successful fundraising projects for Paideia Academy. Tracy has a daughter attending
Paideia Academy.

Director
Dave Phillips

Dave is a current Board Director. He works in Business Development at a software company that creates and sells Practice Management Software to the Behavioral Health marketplace. He holds a Business Degree with a double emphasis in Finance and Accounting and has extensive experience in working with organizations of all sizes. Dave and his wife, Kim, have a son and daughter currently attending Paideia.

Boyd Brown

Boyd is a current Board Member. Boyd is currently with Goodwill-Easter Seals Minnesota and has significant experience in leadership roles at nonprofit and government organizations. He will play an integral role in strategic planning and development for Paideia Academy. Boyd has three children attending Paideia Academy.

Susan Webster

Suzy is a current Board member. She is also a second grade teacher at Paideia and a lead teacher for the lower academy. Suzy previously taught at a charter school in St. Paul and served on their school board. Suzy understands the nature of charter schools.
