| Sarah Olson Music K-4 I have a B.A. in Music and English from Lawrence University, an M.M. in vocal performance from the University of Michigan, and a B.M. in Music Education from the University of Minnesota. I have completed all three levels of Orff-Schulwerk training at the University of Minnesota. I have been a MacPhail instructor since 1997. I teach classes in the Early Childhood Arts department for parents and children as young as 6 weeks. I also teach Early Childhood music at several off-site programs. I have taught as a classroom music instructor through a variety of MacPhail partnerships at many schools including Paideia, Sojourner Truth Academy, and New City School. It is my pleasure to teach general music and choir at Paideia. I love to sing. In
the past, I have sung with many choirs, including the Minnesota
Chorale. |
| Richard
Adams trumpet Mr. Adams holds a bachelor of music in trumpet performance from Oklahoma City University and a master of music in trumpet performance from the University of Minnesota. Richard has performed in pit orchestras, jazz combos, wind ensembles, and symphony orchestras in both Oklahoma and Minnesota. He has taught trumpet since his time as an undergraduate and teaches at Mt. Olivet Academy, Mahtomedi High School, and Rymer-Hadley Center for the Arts. Richard currently teaches in the Paideia Academy instrumental music partnership at MacPhail Center for Music. |
| Dan Bussian trombone Mr. Bussian holds a bachelor of arts degree in trombone performance from the University of Nebraska and an M.M. in bass trombone performance from the University of Minnesota. His performing experience spans from early music to jazz having been a member of the Corns and Butts early music ensemble, orchestra, wind ensemble, brass choir, and jazz combos at the University of Minnesota. Dan currently teaches in the Paideia Academy instrumental music partnership at MacPhail Center for Music. |
| Josh Carlson percussion Mr. Carlson received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music from Gustavus Adolphus College in the spring of 2005. While a student, Josh performed with the Duluth Superior Symphony Orchestra and at Valleyfair Family Amusement Park for two summers. He now teaches percussion at Wayzata High School, Minnesota Youth Symphonies, MacPhail Center for Music, and performs regularly as both a percussionist and drummer in the Twin Cities. Josh teaches in both the Minneapolis Jewish Day School and Paideia Academy instrumental music partnerships at MacPhail. |
| Angelique Gaudette string ensemble director violin,viola Ms. Gaudette holds a bachelor of arts in viola performance from the Lawrence Conservatory and a master of music in viola performance from the University of Washington. Angelique has experience working with students starting as young as five years old and has taught in the Lake Washington School district in Washington state and currently teaches in Wayzata both in a home studio and at Wayzata High School. As a performer, Angelique has played with Green Bay Symphony, Manitowoc Symphony, Federal Way Symphony, and South Dakota Symphony. Angelique will teach viola and violin in the Wayzata WISHES string program at MacPhail Center for Music |
| Scott Hagarty trumpet Mr. Hagarty is a versatile music teacher with experience teaching a wide range of age groups, from beginners to professionals, as well as a wide range of teaching situations, from private lessons and classroom teaching to large ensemble rehearsals. After graduating from the University of Northern Iowa with a music education degree, Scott completed a Masters degree in trumpet performance from Yale University. Scott is currently pursuing a Doctorate of Musical Arts in trumpet performance and teaches in the Paideia Academy instrumental music partnership at MacPhail Center for Music. |
| Julie Johnson flute Ms. Johnson began playing the flute at the age of 10 in Graceton, MN, a small town on the Canadian border. At 15, an Artist-Mentor scholarship gave her the opportunity to study with Susan Nelson, professor of flute at Bemidji State University. At Augsburg College in Minneapolis, MN, she studied with Trudi Anderson, and played principal flute in both the orchestra and band. She was also a two-time winner of the Concerto/Aria Competition, and served as principal flute of the Minnesota Inter-Collegiate Honor Band under the direction of Frederick Fenell. In 1999, Julie served as co-principal flute of the Rome Festival Orchestra, having received a Career Opportunity Grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board to spend a month in Italy performing there. She has also performed with the Duluth/Superior Symphony Orchestra, the Minneapolis Civic Orchestra, has served as principal flute of the Balcones Orchestra (Austin, TX) and was a guest soloist with the Austin Civic Wind Ensemble. In the spring of 2004, she was invited to study with Sibel Kumru-Pensel in Antibes, France, where she was a featured soloist in two chamber recitals. She was a performer at the Fete de la Flute in Menton, France in the spring of 2005. |
| Greg Keel saxophone Mr. Keel is on the faculty at MacPhail Center for the Arts, Normandale College in Minneapolis and UW-Eau Claire. Mr. Keel attended the University of Wisconsin at Eau Claire, Madison and Concordia College in St. Paul. He has performed on the tours of Mel Torme, The Temptations, Andy Williams, The O’Jays, Frankie Valli, Natalie Cole and Bob Hope. Mr. Keel is also a MacPhail resident instructor for the IDDS, MJDS and Henry High School Music Programs. He also hosts Saxophone Day, an annual clinic at MacPhail. Greg’s jazz students have received recognition from Down Beat magazine, with outstanding college soloist winners in the magazine’s Student Music Awards, and as members of the Outstanding College Big Band. |
| Theresa Lunsford cello Ms. Lunsford received her BM Degree in Cello Performance with High Distinction and a M.M. degree in Cello Performance with Cognate in String Pedagogy from Indiana University in Bloomington. Ms. Lundsford is on the faculty of St Joseph’s School of Music, Integrity Music Academy and the Ramsey Int’l Fine Art Center. She has performance with numerous symphonies including the New World Symphony, the Metropolitan Symphony in Minneapolis, the Duluth Superior Symphony and the For Wayne Philharmonic. |
| Sandy Powers clarinet Sandra Powers has been a member of the teaching faculty at MacPhail Center for the Arts since 1993. She received her bachelor’s degree in clarinet performance from the Eastman School of Music, and master of music degrees and performer’s certificate degree from Northwestern University. Sandra is currently principal clarinetist with the Minnesota Opera, and with VocalEssence as well as doing a wide variety of freelanceing, ranging from the 3 tenors, to the Moody Blues. When not immersed in music, Sandra is usually traveling to the western states of the U.S. to rock climb. |
