Core Knowledge

The Core Knowledge Sequence is a research-based program that is utilized in hundreds of school across the country and is “based on the premise that a grade-by-grade core of common learning is necessary to ensure a sound and fair elementary education.”  Core Knowledge was founded by  Dr. E. D. Hirsch, Jr. and is based on a large body of research in cognitive psychology, as well as a careful examination of several of the world's fairest and most effective school systems.  Dr. Hirsch has argued that, for the sake of academic excellence, greater fairness, and higher literacy, early schooling should provide a solid, specific, shared core curriculum in order to help children establish strong foundations of knowledge. www.coreknowledge.org.

he Core Knowledge Sequence maps out a complete program that provides the student with a broad-based education, free of significant gaps.  It clearly defines the knowledge and skills that each student must master at each grade level and creates high levels of academic expectations.  In addition, the Core Knowledge Sequence not only eliminates some of the gaps and repetition characterized in standard curriculums, but it also aids in delivering cultural literacy in a systematic manner while leaving room for creativity.
