Grade 6 Math
My name is Melody Walker, and I am excited to begin my second year here at Paideia. This year I am looking forward to teaching sixth grade math. In addition to teaching math I will also be working part time as a reading specialist for general education students in grades six through eight who are not yet performing at grade level.
I graduated from Gustaus Adolphus College in 2004 with a degree in Elementary Education and Middle School Math. In August of 2009 I completed an additional license from St. Mary’s University as a K-12 Reading Specialist.
Growing up I lived with my parents and older brother in Texas, Utah, Delaware, and Illinois. I love to travel, play sports, watch the Twins, and spend time with my dog Sophie. In June I traveled with my mom to Alaska and had a wonderful trip. In late summer I injured my ankle playing Ultimate Frisbee, but am hoping recovery will continue to go well.
Grade 7 and 8 Math
My name is Michelle Sherrard and I teach 7th and 8th grade math. I graduated from the University of Wisconsin-River Falls with a B.S. in Elementary Education and a Middle School Mathematics Certification. This will be my second full year at Paideia teaching math. When I first started at Paideia, I worked in the special education department. From the moment I started at Paideia I felt right at home. The staff, the students, and the families are supportive and are always willing to work together.
When I am not at school, I like to spend time at home with my husband, my son and my yellow lab, or up north relaxing at the cabin. My hobbies include: cross-stitching, quilting, scrap booking, completing puzzles, cooking/baking, fishing, 4-wheeling and reading. I am looking forward to a great and exciting year. I look forward to seeing continued growth in math!
Special Education - Math
My name is Ms. Marshall, and I’m excited to join the Paideia team as a special education teacher and co-teaching in the middle school math classes. I graduated from Minnesota State University Moorhead with a degree in Elementary Education and a specialty in Mathematics, and later attended University of Minnesota-Duluth to earn my Special Education licensures so I can teach students with Specific Learning Disabilities and Emotional and Behavioral Disorders. I have an interesting, broad range of experience teaching, starting out in a Montessori school and then working at a day treatment facility for at-risk preschoolers and kindergarteners. Those experiences and differing philosophies created a desire in me to learn how to best meet each child’s learning needs, since they are so diverse. For the past three years I worked as a middle school special education teacher in Cloquet, MN, and I enjoy teaching children this age due to being able to remind them of how important it is for them to develop the skills that they’ll need to be successful in high school and beyond.
My husband, one-year-old daughter, and I just moved to St. Paul from Duluth, and we love living in the twin cities area! In my spare time, I love trying new foods, hiking, camping, swimming, singing, and traveling. I look forward to meeting the students, parents, and families at Paideia Academy and forming a partnership to work collaboratively so that each child can succeed this year to the best of their abilities.
